Tech Tip: Shred Efficiency

ASI Mobile - Shred
Sometimes it's necessary to move or remove a bin for various reasons. When REMOVING a bin from a stop, ASI Mobile -Shred now removes both the bin barcode AND the placement from the system.

In the spirit of customizing the user experience, Veri-Shred now retains the screen size settings once defined by the user.

To set Veri-Shred's screen size, go to:

  • General Settings
  • Security/Login tab
  • Check the “Remember Screen Dimensions” option.

Learning from Lee
Scott Bidwell, ASI President/CEO

LeeMiller picAs 2016 comes to a close, we are both happy and sad to announce that Lee Miller is now officially retiring from his position as the CEO of Andrews Software, Inc. Throughout his career in the RIM services industry Lee has touched many lives, generously sharing his experiences, expertise and friendship.

I can trace my relationship with Lee to my days in high school when his son, Mark, and I were close friends. I worked as seasonal labor at Andrews Records Management (ARM) during this time, and for a couple of summers during college. My responsibility was to learn the business from the ground up, which meant doing everything from building warehouse rack, pulling and re-filing records, making deliveries, and working in the vault. These opportunities later grew into a position in outside customer service and ultimately, outside sales where my challenge was to solve customer problems through the use of technology and services we provided for the records center.

“Do what you say you are going to do
because in the end, all you have is your word."

In 1994, Lee offered me the opportunity to move from spending days in my mobile sales office (i.e., car) to the upstairs tech room to grow Andrews Software, Inc. (ASI), which had been developed to manage ARM's accounting and operational systems. Always up for learning something new and taking on a challenge, I spent the next three years, selling, installing and training new records center customers and growing the client base and team members as needed. Slowly but steadily, ASI grew from its modest staff of three to become a global provider of RIM software, serving hundreds of clients in 26 countries.

As ASI grew over the years, so too did ARM which sold to Cintas in 2005. It was eight years ago, in 2007, that Lee and I put into place an exit strategy whereby we became co-owners of ASI – Lee as CEO and silent partner, and I as President/COO. Lee’s retirement fulfills this succession plan and I am excited by what is to come for the company, as we continue to build upon our successes and look toward new opportunities.

During this time, I learned much from Lee. If you were to ask me the one thing Lee taught me that stands out above many, I would have to say it is, “Do what you say you are going to do because in the end, all you have is your word." Through his example, I also saw the importance of always treating people the way you wish to be treated.

ASI’s commitment to the industries we serve will continue to be just that - a commitment. We realize and take to heart what we do every day and the potential impact we could have on you, our customer, your employees, your families, and everyone involved if we do not continue to move forward. To be honest, it is rather humbling for me, that so many people have put their faith in what we do every day, and for that we are truly thankful to each and every one of you.

I look forward to continuing to build upon ASI's foundation of innovation and service as the company enters its next chapter of growth. I've seen a lot of changes in the industries we serve, both from a technology standpoint and the people who were a part of it during this time and I continue to see great opportunity in the evolution of our industry. God willing, I will follow in Lee's footsteps, building upon these opportunities and passing my interests in ASI to a successor in another 20 years.

Thanks Lee!

Throughout his career, Lee provided guidance and mentorship to many of our industry's leaders. Trisha Rooney, R4 Services President & CEO and Jim Booth, PRISM Executive Director from 2000-2012 kindly shared Lee's impact on their lives and we're honored to share with you.

TrishRooney pic"Lee Miller has been a change maker and mentor in the information management field for more than 20 years. As a friend and mentor, Lee’s guidance and experience is second to none.

When Lee started the NRC with fellow records management owners across the country, he recruited me as a founding member – for that I will always be most appreciative. His forward thinking and execution changed the way the RIM industry does business. It’s been almost 20 years since we were first introduced and now the ASI team is like family. Lee, you built a great business and work environment. Thank you for paving the way for all of us! My best to you and your family in your retirement!"

JimBooth pic“When I stepped in to take the helm of NRCC, one of the first people to reach out to me was Lee Miller. I cannot begin to thank him for the many hours he spent with me teaching me about the commercial records management industry. He is among a very small handful of very influential mentors I was fortunate enough to know during my early years in the industry.

When I ran PRISM International, one of the things I noticed about Lee right away, (aside from his amazing radio voice which is impossible to miss,) was his incredible integrity. If mistakes were made or he missed the mark, Lee was the first one to mention it. His guidance and counsel is so incredibly valuable because he can take himself out of the equation and focus on the obstacle to be overcome. He’s a remarkable leader.

Lee is one of those rare people who can take off his Andrews hat and put on his organization hat to make decisions that are the right decisions for the organization – even if they cause Andrews a bit of pain. He also has an amazing sense of humor. Whether it was volunteering to pay for gas on a boat then going pale when the bill exceeded $500 (and then laughing about it), or he and Linda surviving a bout of stomach flu during PRISM International’s Paris conference, he approached every situation with cheer and joy. His laugh can be heard in the next building and wraps everyone in a warm blanket of appreciation and laughter.

It has been a sincere pleasure to know Lee and I wish him much joy and happiness on his retirement from Andrews!”
