Thanks for Bailing Scott Out!

Last month, Scott asked for your help in supporting the vital work being done by the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

With your generous support, Scott was able to "make bail" AND you've helped send two kids to MDA Summer Camp. AWESOME!!!

Thanks so much for helping make a difference in the lives of young people living with this debilitating disease.

MDA is dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and other neuromuscular diseases. At the same time, the Association provides health care and support services for people living with these diseases.

Time to Migrate
Scott Bidwell, President/COO

The new year is always a good time to review and deal with software migrations for your operating system and for ASI applications. In the August 2013 edition of the ASI Archive, the focus of my monthly article targeted Microsoft and its announcement that it would stop supporting Windows XP, its most popular operating system (OS) after April 8, 2014. That date is almost upon us so I thought it'd be a good time to revisit this topic and its potential impact.

When operating systems are no longer supported it means no updates and security patches are developed for flaws found in the OS. With no support, XP users are sure to experience significant security breaches and compliance issues. (It is worth noting that Microsoft has recently announced an extension of its antimalware support for Windows XP through July 14, 2015.) To hackers and malware developers, it's like "open season" on XP users where accessing systems and data will be all the easier.

If you or your business are still running XP, you're not alone. According to Net Applications data, XP usage on PC's was hovering around 29% worldwide at year's end. NCR, the biggest supplier of ATM machines the U.S., says that a whopping 95 percent of the world’s ATM's are running Windows XP.

You can roll the dice and hope for the best, of course. If your pockets are deep enough, you could choose to pay the fees for customer support, as the banking industry has chosen to do while they upgrade, or you can migrate to a more current version of Windows (Windows 8, for example).

The latter, of course, is the best option to protect yourself and your business. If you are using XP and start moving to a 64-bit world, you have to look at legacy apps and whether they'll run on the new system. The ASI Support Team is happy to work with you to help as you navigate these ever-changing waters. Yes, it will take time, effort and financial investment; however, the risks and the costs of NOT migrating are much greater.

NAID Shred School Hosts Full House in Vegas

Shred School logoIt was standing room only for the first Shred School of 2014. Held February 12th and 13th in Las Vegas and led by NAID Deputy Executive Director Ray Barry, Shred School incorporated feedback from last year's attendees to deliver an even more dynamic workshop. This included more content, shortened sessions, and a new binder filled with handouts and info that attendees are sure to use as a post-event reference resource.

“I’m new to the business and I got a lot of information I would not have otherwise at work,” said Vegas attendee Antonia Moore. “Shred School had great information and a chance to network.”

As a longtime sponsor of Shred School, ASI is honored to be able to support this event. You'll find us at the next workshop to be held March 12-13 in Atlanta, Georgia at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. There are only five seats left so be sure to register today!
